Members of the public concerned about the potential loss of choice turned out in droves in recent weeks to testify before legislators. They felt blindsided after Gov. Kasich’s administration tucked into last month’s budget bill a proposal to phase out potentially thousands of independent providers, citing concerns about fraud. Angry calls, hundreds of emails and more than 60 hours of testimony ensued. Read More HERE
Before June 30, the State of Ohio will decide whether to continue permitting Independent Providers to offer waiver services under Ohio's three, non-self-directed developmental disabilities Medicaid waivers. Waivers affected by the plan would include the Individual Options (IO) Waiver, Level One Waiver, and Transitions DD (TDD) Waiver.

Public Testimony Regarding Proposed Budget, March 10th & 17th
The House Finance Committee on Health and Human Services will hear testimony regarding the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities proposed budget on Tuesday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 17th.
Written Testimony: Representative Robert Cole Sprague, Finance Subcommittee on Health & Human Services
Those of you who wish to testify in person should send your testimony 24 hours in advance to the same email and tell the Representative that you will be testifying in person on either March 10th or March 17th. If you are unable to send your written testimony in advance, try to bring 40 copies for members of the House Committee and their staff.
The Arc of Ohio recommends that you keep your comments to less than two (2) pages and verbal testimony to approximately three (3) minutes. It is best to be concise and to the point. Be sure to give your name, address and why you are testifying.Register at the front of the hearing room to testify and be prepared to wait. This is a very long process. Hearings will begin after the full House Session adjourns. It is not an exact time, but the hearings should begin about 11:30 a.m. on March 10th and March 17th.

Independent Providers: It is imperative we work on one accord. Fortunately, there are other concerned parties, of whom started a Petition to the Governor to retract the plan to eliminate Independent Providers. I encourage all of you to click below, sign this Petition, tell your story and support the cause with a financial contribution. We can't expect to get results without spending money. We need to spread the word to the 13,000 Independent Providers in Ohio to also tell their story here:
